AUSTIN -- Austin has a large running community, and several groups are promoting events this week and weekend in honor of those injured and killed in Boston.

Terror at the Boston Marathon Monday isn't going to stop runners.

"If you want to try to hurt the human spirit, marathoners are the wrong people to target," said Austinite Kiely Rutledge.

Actually, it's bringing them out.

On Saturday there's a S-W-E-A-T Austin: Run for Boston! meet on the northside of the Congress Bridge. Organizers want to get as many people to join and "sweat for victory over those who did this."

Gilbert's Gazelles is organizing a walk/run meeting at the rock under MoPac at 8 p.m. on Thursday. The focal point is celebrating the return home of more than 180 runners from the Austin-area, plus remembering those injured and killed. They want people to bring glow sticks or other devices Thursday night to help light up the trail in remembrance.

RunTex founder Paul Carrozza says Austin is well prepared for major events, but did not doubt the impact the bombs at the Boston Marathon will have in Austin.

"There is going to be this look of was there any lessons learned, how do you apply what was learned  to future events here in Austin," Carrozza said.

One side of the finish line in Boston was bleachers, the other side where the bombs went off are bars. Similar to Boston, the stands take time to set up in Austin, so there must be security overnight.

"Having security tighter overnight, and having people wear credentials. If you don't have them, you don't get in," Carrozza said.

Carrozza thinks Austin does a good job at both during major events.
