AUSTIN -- Austin's fire chief is throwing out the 2012 hiring list.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission declared the hiring process from that year unfair to African Americans and Hispanics.
Rhoda Mae Kerr says out of the 328 African American candidates tested, the department placed three on the hiring list.
She also says the city provided the EEOC with information showing the testing is job-related and necessary.
Still, the city attorney recommends no additional personnel be hired from the 2012 list.
