Your tax dollars are at stake right now at Austin City Hall. A specially-called meeting is underway to adopt the new property tax rate for next year.

The meeting started at 9:30 Wednesday morning.

The proposed increase would mean the average homeowner would pay $52 more per year.

Thursday's regular meeting of the Austin City Council will not be at City Hall. For the first time in 10 years, the council has scheduled an off-site meeting. Instead, it will be held in East Austin at the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center.

The idea is to make meetings more accessible to residents in other parts of town.
