City offers curbside Christmas tree recycling

AUSTIN -- City of Austin curbside customers can recycle their Christmas trees at the curb, according to the city.

Trees will be composted into Dillo Dirt™. The city has asked residents to set out their trees by 6:30 a.m. on trash and yard trimmings collection day, and remove all decorations and stands from the tree.
 
Trees over 6 feet should be cut in half, the city said.
 
Zilker Park Drop-Off
All residents can drop off their trees, decorations and stands removed, for recycling at Zilker Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates:
·    Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014
·    Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014
·    Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014
·    Sunday, Jan.12, 2014
 
If you or your organization is interested in volunteering at Zilker Park during the collection days, please contact Joe Washington at (512) 971-5708.
 
Trees collected at Zilker are turned into much which will be available for free on a first-come, first-served basis to Austin residents starting Thursday, Jan. 23. Please be bring your own tools and storage containers for the loading and transporting the mulch.
