DALE, Texas -- Police have arrested a third man in connection with the murder of 47-year-old Russell Martens in Caldwell County on or around Dec. 6.
Pedro Lucio, 23, and Louis Holt, 25, were arrested for the crime earlier. Trey Hopes, 20, turned himself in to Lockhart police on Dec. 12.
The three men have been charged with capital murder, which police said occurred while the three were robbing the home, which is located in the 100 block of J. McHugh Drive. Martens was at the home caring for the house while its tenant, Virgil Dobbins, was in the hospital.
The Lockhart Police Department said they located the three men in response to a call of shots fired on Dec. 7, which they later determined to be a drive-by shooting.
Lucio was charged with several offenses in addition to murder, including assault on a peace officer, unlawful possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, deadly conduct and criminal mischief. Police said Holt and Hopes were believed to be in the car with Lucio but were not found. Police said items found in the car matched some of the items taken from the home.
