AUSTIN -- KVUE has confirmed one of Austin’s best known and longest running live music venues will soon be moving to a new location.
Antone’s Nightclub opened their current location at 213 West 5th Street during SXSW in 1997. They will host their final live performances at that location during SXSW in March.
The move will occur shortly after SXSW.
Antone's spokesperson Frank Hendrix said the new space will be larger and will have much better parking for both the bands and their fans.
This will be the 5th location for the club opened by the late Clifford Antone on 6th Street in 1975, back when there were few entertainment choices downtown.
The club moved to North Austin off of Anderson Lane for a brief period in the 1980s before a 15-year run on Guadalupe Street where young performers such as Stevie Ray Vaughan and the Fabulous Thunderbirds played alongside blues legends such as Muddy Waters and Albert Collins.
Hendrix said Antone’s plans to announce the new location later this month.
