AUSTIN – It’s official: Austin’s self-proclaimed “Home of the Blues” is indeed moving to a new location.

Antone’s Nightclub has been at its present location, 5th Street and Lavaca Street for nearly 16 years.

The late Clifford Antone opened his first legendary Blues club with his name on 6th Street in 1976.

A co-owner of the club confirmed with KVUE News that the last day at the downtown location for Antone’s will be March 18th.

The new digs will be at 2015 East Riverside, the fourth location for the popular venue.

This is the same complex where Emo’s and the Beauty Ballroom are presently housed.

“At least they're not leaving Austin for good or leaving Austin in general,” said Travis Stearns, a member of the “Dirty River Band” from El Paso who has performed at Antone’s.

Antone’s is expected to open up in its East Riverside Street location in late March of this year.
