AUSTIN – Austin’s Home of the Blues, Antone’s Nightclub, is vacating its Warehouse District digs in downtown Austin for greener pastures.

Sources tell KVUE that Antone’s is looking at moving to one of five potential locations. Two are on the eastside, two are in the downtown area and one is up north.

The popular Blues venue has been at its present location at the corner of 5th and Lavaca Street for nearly 16 years.

The late Clifford Antone opened his first Blues club on 6th Street in 1976. The club has moved four times in 36 years.

Diehard music lovers told KVUE that it’s less about Antone’s location and more about its legendary reputation, and many music fans said they’ll follow the venue wherever it lands.

Antone’s will remain at its present location through SXSW.

A California company is opening up an underground dance club when Antone’s vacates the 5th & Lavaca Street property.
