AUSTIN -- Kasandra "Kasi" Perkins graduated from Anderson High School in 2009. The teaching staff who knew her best describe her as a smiling students with good grades and lots of friends.

"She was a really sweet kid -- always happy, always smiling," said Anderson High School Assistant Principal DeArylon Biester. "Everyone on campus liked her. I don’t think there was anybody she wouldn’t get in a conversation with."

On Saturday, police say Perkins' boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher shot and killed her, before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself in front of coaches and police.

Monday Perkins' family released a statement that read in part, "Our hearts are truly broken for Kasi. She was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, mother, cousin and friend...Please keep us in your hearts and prayers as well as the Belcher family..."

Perkins is also the cousin of Jamaal Charles' wife. He played alongside Belcher on the Kansas City Chiefs football team, and also played at the University of Texas.

Charles also released a statement Monday, which read in part:

"Kasandra was not only family, but a friend and a loving mother. As my actual family and my Kansas City Chiefs family have been altered forever, we ask that you keep us and most importantly their child in prayer."
