AUSTIN -- Anderson High School's principal confirms an alleged hazing incident did happen with three upperclassmen and a former student paddling two freshmen.
In an email sent to parents, Principal Donna Houser said in part:
"We, at Anderson, never want our students to feel anything but safe and secure when dealing with our school community and our current and past students. I want to assure you that these three upperclassmen were not from any particular team or group on campus. They were individuals acting on their own, off campus, and without the knowledge of their parents or staff at school."
The statement says the paddling happened at one of the student's homes before the school year began, and was said to be part of a "welcoming ceremony."
The principal says the three current students have faced the consequences for their actions.
