AUSTIN -- A unique effort designed to encourage Central Texans to tap into their philanthropic nature is on the horizon.

Amplify Austin is a 24-hour online giving event, complete with the creative touches that celebrate the best of our community.

The goal is to raise $1 million for local nonprofits between 7 p.m. March 4 and 7 p.m. March 5. During that time, anyone with a generous nature can log on to www.AmplifyATX.org and donate to their choice of more than 300 organizations, including Austin Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas, and Capital Area Crime Stoppers.

Supporting a favorite cause comes with an automatic boost during the event. All donations will be amplified through $160,000 in matching gifts from University Federal Credit Union and Austin Community Foundation. Every hour nonprofits will win prize money for garnering the most donors or dollars.

As a "thank you," random drawings on March 5 will provide several lucky donors with surprise serenades at their workplaces, courtesy of local musicians.

Amplify Austin was created by I Live Here, I Give Here® , a local organization dedicated to increasing personal philanthropy by spotlighting the needs in our community and connecting donors with the nonprofits committed to the causes they care about.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to get more people giving. Our motto is: Anyone can be a philanthropist if you are thoughtful and intentional about giving," explains Patsy Woods Martin, Founder and Executive Director of I Live Here, I Give Here.
