AUSTIN -- Police officers appear to be resorting to the use of force much more, compared to recent years.

According to our content partners at The Austin American-Statesman, evidence of physical coercion during arrests jumped by more than 80 percent city-wide from 2009 to 2011.

In the downtown Entertainment District closest to Interstate 35, the number of "use of force" incidents jumped by more than 150 percent.

The Statesman reports that APD officers use force nearly six times as often as officers in Fort Worth.
