AUSTIN -- Austin police have ruled the death of an individual found at an apartment complex in Northwest Austin early Monday morning as a homicide.
APD responded to a check welfare call at 12:23 a.m. for a man inside building 21 at the Woodtrail at Riata apartment complex.
Two roommates came home to find a body in their apartment. They couldn't get the front door completely open.
The victim had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Mohamad Omar, 22, of Austin.
Authorities are looking for witnesses. So far no arrests have been made.
Neighbors say they suspected drug activity at the home.
"We would smell things and see things. Just a lot of suspicious activity," said Chris Mallonee.
