AUSTIN -- Police have announced they will enforce a No Refusal Initiative for drivers as well as boaters over Memorial Day weekend.

APD's DWI Enforcement and Lake Patrol Units will be out in full force to make sure people aren't driving or boating while drunk. The initiative will begin Friday, May 24, at 9 p.m. and will continue through Tuesday, May 28, at 5 a.m.

Under the No Refusal Initiative, drivers or boaters who appear to be under the influence of alcohol will be given a search warrant for a mandatory blood draw if they refuse a breath or blood test.

State law says first time offenders who have a blood alcohol level of .15 or higher face up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
