APD identifies man killed in weekend traffic fatality

AUSTIN -- At 12:58 a.m. Saturday Oct. 13, Austin police responded to a crash involving a Ford F-150 pickup truck and a motorcycle.

Both vehicles were traveling northbound in the 7500 block of Cameron Road when the motorcycle collided into the rear of the pickup.

The driver of the pickup stayed on the scene and called 911. 

The driver of the motorcycle is identified as 60-year-old Emilio Benavidez. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge with critical injuries. He was pronounced dead at 6:52 a.m.

Police said Saturday alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Austin Police Department Vehicular Homicide Unit detectives at (512) 974-5560. This is Austin’s 59th traffic fatality (four of which have been motorcyclists) of 2012. At this time in 2011, there were 44 traffic fatalities.
