AUSTIN -- Police have arrested a man for stealing a friend's handgun, blaming it on a burglar and breaking into another woman's home.
APD says on Oct. 3 they were called to 2741 Kinney Oaks Court. Thomas Krausz, 40, claimed to be house sitting for a friend who was out of town when he reported her gun had been stolen.
When the friend returned she told police that she believed there was no robbery and that Krausz had stolen the gun himself. The friend mentioned to police that she told Krausz he could watch TV at her house while she was away, not house sit.
Austin police were called to 807 West Lynn Street on Oct. 8 after a woman reported a burglary at her residence. The woman told police that she noticed her laptop missing and it seemed like someone had used her shower.
She also found a backpack in her closet while searching her house. Inside was a handgun and a mask from the "Scream" movies, along with duct tape and zip ties.
The woman later found her laptop being sold on Craigslist. She recognized the number of Krausz, who she has been acquainted with for several years.
Krausz was soon taken into custody and is in the Travis County Jail. He is charged with burglary of a residence, theft of a firearm and making a false report. He has other charges pending in Bell and Hays Counties.
If you think you may have been one of his victims, you are asked to call 311 and make a police report.
