AUSTIN -- Austin police cadets will participate in the traditional Chief’s Run Tuesday morning. The group gathered at the Peace Officers Memorial on the State Capitol grounds at 7 a.m.

After a brief meeting with department leaders including Chief Art Acevedo, the group began to run down Congress Avenue. One block of southbound Congress Avenue was closed as the class made its way over the bridge at Lady Bird Lake.

The class of 40 will graduate from the Police Academy this Friday. Following the run, APD will begin recruiting new cadets for its next class. The department is hosting a recruiting fair from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the ACC Northridge Campus.
