The Austin School Board will vote Monday on whether to change the way class rank is calculated making it more difficult for some students to reach the top 10 percent of their graduating class.
The proposal suggests calculating class rank only by using the four main courses: math, science, language arts, and social studies.
Currently, some easier elective courses are weighed the same as more difficult classes like calculus.
If the board votes in favor, the change will go into effect for incoming freshmen starting next fall.
