AUSTIN -- Austin's school board heard the final recommendations for new same-sex campuses Monday night.

Trustees met at AISD headquarters to consider two separate proposals.

The first and most popular proposal is a new all-boys school on the current alternative learning center campus. Students from all over the district would attend.

District officials also recommended turning two East Austin middle schools, Pearce and Garcia, into separate boys and girls campuses.

A recent survey of families in that neighborhood showed not everyone likes the idea.

The school board votes on both proposals three weeks from Monday night.
