AUSTIN -- Austin School District board members voted Monday night to make Pearce and Garcia middle schools in East Austin same-sex campuses.
Students in that neighborhood will go to one or the other.
Before the 6-2 vote, school board members heard from concerned parents on both sides of the issue.
School board members also approved the plan to open a districtwide school for boys, called School for Young Men, at the Alternative Learning Center campus.
School for Young Men will complement the Ann Richards School for Girls.
