AUSTIN -- Fire investigators are trying to determine if two suspicious house fires within two blocks of each other are linked.
Both happened Monday morning after 9 in Southeast Austin near I-35 and William Cannon.
Flames burned through the roof of a one home under construction on Thannas Way.
On the way there, neighbors flagged down firefighters to tell them about smoke at a nearby home on Blue Meadow Drive. That home was vacant but up for sale.
Firefighters managed to contain the second fire to a back bedroom. The house still suffered $5,000 in damage. The home under construction has $50,000 in damage
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
