AUSTIN - The moment Longhorns fans were all waiting for happened Sunday evening: No, it wasn't the unveiling of freshman Shane Buechele as starting quarterback for Texas. It was the unveiling of the team's mascot, Bevo XV.

Here are nine facts about Bevo brought to you by UT:

  • Bevo XV won grand champion show steer at one of the country's largest cattle shows
  • Bevo XV is 19-months-old. He was born in January of 2015
  • He currently weighs 1,100 pounds and eats about 30 pounds of feed per day
  • His registered name is Sunrise Spur
  • Bevo XV was selected by a group of Silver Spurs students and alumni
  • The Silver Spurs have been responsible for caring for Bevo since 1945 with the arrival of Bevo III
  • This is the 100th year of the Bevo tradition. Bevo I first appeared at the Thanksgiving game in 1916 against Texas A&M University
  • Bevo was not named by being branded 13-0 by Texas A&M. He was first named Bevo in the December 1916 alumni magazine. The branding incident didn't happen until February 1917
