AUSTIN -- Police have made five more arrests in the gang rape of a 13-year-old girl, bringing the total to eight men charged with the June incident.
Mauricio Guerrero Carranco, 21, Jose Juan Mendez-Hernandez, 24, Ruben Rodriguez Vega, 34, Michael Garcia, Jr., 27, and Ruben Manzano-Guerrero, 20, were arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child. They are all being held on a $30,000 bond each.
Donald Ray Lewis, Juan Ortega and Edgar Perez were previously arrested and charged with the same crime.
Police believe as many as 10 men are suspected in taking part in the June 29 incident. Authorities say the 13-year-old victim ran away from her group home between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. and got into a car with three strangers.
According to an arrest affidavit, the girl says she was taken into an apartment and sexually assaulted by a group of men. She told police the group cheered and filmed each assault with cell phones. The victim told police the men then dropped her off on the side of a road.
A medical exam confirmed the trauma to the teen's body matches her story.
