AUSTIN -- Police have released more details about a traffic accident which killed a man and left three people critically injured Sunday afternoon.
The accident took place on FM 2222 east of River Place around 2:20 p.m. APD says a silver Pontiac Sunfire was heading east on FM 2222 when the driver lost control of the car. The vehicle veered into westbound traffic and was hit by a motorcyclist. The Sunfire then slid into westbound traffic where it was hit by a second motorcyclist. One of the motorcyclists caught fire during the impact.
Four people were taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge, two of them by STAR Flight.
Police say the first motorcyclist, a 31-year-old man, died at the hospital just after 5 p.m. A passenger with him had serious injuries but is expected to survive.
The driver of the Sunfire and the other motorcyclist had non-life threatening injuries.
