3 displaced after morning house fire in East Austin

AUSTIN -- Austin Fire Department responded to a house fire in East Austin Friday morning.

Authorities say the three residents of the home along the 1000 block of Brass Street were alerted to the fire in their attic by the smoke alarm.

Crews were called to the scene around 7:15 a.m. The fire was brought under control in less than 30 minutes.

AFD says the fire started in a vent fan above the bathroom and spread through the attic. Damage is estimated at $50,000 to the structure and $25,000 to the contents of the home.

AFD is calling the home a total loss The Red Cross is assisting the residents of the home.
