AUSTIN -- The driver killed when his 18-wheeler crashed and caught fire on a major interstate this week has been identified.
Austin police say Reginald D. Porch, 52, was driving north on Interstate 35 around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday when a blue Ford Taurus driving in the middle lane veered into the right lane.
This caused the 18-wheeler, driven by Porch, to leave the road and hit a concrete bridge pillar before catching on fire. Porch was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident shut down part of Interstate 35 for close to 24 hours. It reopened Wednesday morning.
This is Austin's fourth traffic fatality of the year.
