AUSTIN - The officer who slammed schoolteacher Breaion King to the ground during a June 2015 arrest will not face charges, KVUE News has learned.
A Travis County grand jury issued the no-bill late Thursday afternoon, clearing Officer Bryan Richter of any criminal wrongdoing in the arrest. Video of the arrest was not seen by the public until July 2016, when prosecutors opened an investigation by both the district attorney’s office and Austin police.
Richter said King did not obey commands and resisted arrest, which led to the use of force. Police Chief Art Acevedo publicly said Richter should have handled the case differently, and the department is still looking into how APD handled its internal review of the arrest.
