AUSTIN - Police supervisors who fail to report police complaints to their superiors could be suspended or fired, Chief Art Acevedo said Wednesday.
According to KVUE’s partners at the Austin American-Statesman, the change is coming after a city audit of how APD handles complaints. That audit found many supervisors would not forward police complaints to internal affairs, violating department policy.
The Statesman reported Acevedo said those supervisors could now face a 15-day suspension or termination on the first offense and would be automatically fired if it happened again.
