ELGIN, Texas - A celebration turns deadly after a shooting at a house party in Elgin.
Police say it happened at 8:40 pm at a party at 126 South Hwy. 95. The suspect, 48-year old Pascual Sanchez Carbajal shot 42-year old Hilarion Alvardo Crieta in the back; he died at the scene. Carbajal also shot another woman at the party in the leg. She was transported to Brackenridge hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say Carbajal and Crieta showed up to the party together. Witnesses tell police that after shooting Crieta in the back, the suspect turned the gun on the crowd and shot at least twice at the party goers. After injuring the woman, Carbajal attempted to turn the gun on himself but was detained by people at the party until police arrived.
Police say the group was celebrating a confirmation that happened on Friday night. Police say about 55 people were at the home, including children as young as 1-years old.
Witnesses on the scene tell KVUE they heard gunshots and everyone hit the ground terrified.
Police are unsure of a motive at this time. Carbajal is in custody.
