Teen killed in 620 crash identified

AUSTIN - Authorities have released the identity of the teen killed after a crash along RM 620 in Austin Sept. 10.

Austin police said Diego Coleman Lafranco, 19, was attempting to turn left from RM 620 to Boulder Lane shortly before 4 p.m. Sept. 10. APD said their investigation shows Lafranco failed to yield right-of-way in his 2013 Pontiac to northbound traffic. Police cited a witness account and evidence at the scene pointing to the Pontiac stopping or dramatically slowing while turning.

A 2010 Chevrolet traveling northbound on RM 620 struck the right side of the Pontiac. The Chevrolet had a solid green light at the time of the crash, and both vehicles came to a rest on the northeast corner of RM 620 and Boulder Lane.

Lafranco was transported to Round Rock Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet was not injured.

Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-8544. This is the 49th fatal crash and 50th fatality on Austin roads in 2016.
