Police identify men killed in Loop 360 crash

AUSTIN - Police have released the identities of the men killed in a wrong-way crash on Capital of Texas Highway (Loop 360) on Sept. 10.

Austin police said a 2016 Toyota Corolla was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Loop 360 around 6:30 a.m. Sept. 10 when it struck a 2012 Nissan Frontier pickup head on in the 2600 block of North Capital of Texas Highway. The driver of the Toyota, Pete Zachariah Steward, 44, died at the scene. The driver of the Nissan, 55-year-old Michael Keith Kollman, was taken to South Austin Medical Center and died from his injuries Sept. 11.

Witnesses reported seeing the Toyota enter the northbound lanes of Capital of Texas Highway from the northbound exit ramp at Westlake Drive. APD said both men were wearing seat belts, and that toxicology test results are pending to determine if intoxication was a factor in the crash.

Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-8544. This is the 48th fatal crash and 48th and 49th fatalities on Austin roads in 2016.
