Two pedestrians killed in Bastrop County crash

BASTROP COUNTY, TEXAS - Two pedestrians were killed in a crash along Texas 71 in Bastrop County on Sunday evening.

Department of Public Safety Sgt. Robbie Barrera said two pedestrians were attempting to cross SH 71 near FM 1209 around 9 p.m. Sunday when they were struck. The two were not in the crosswalk but in the middle of the intersection when they attempted to cross, Barrera added.

DPS said the two were first struck by a 2000 Nissan Xterra in the outside lane and sent airborne. The two landed in the inside lane and were then hit by a 2006 GMC Sierra in the inside lane. Both vehicles stopped after the crash.

The pedestrians have been identified as Joseph Capps, 25, and Steven Brewster, 26, both of Cedar Creek.
