Fare no longer operating in Austin

AUSTIN – Ride-hailing company Fare is ending service in Austin, citing a loss of business.

Fare began operating in Austin shortly after Uber and Lyft left in the wake of Proposition 1 in May 2016, and was one of the three major ride-hailing services during their absence. With the return of the two companies, Fare said in an email that “unfortunately, we are unable to endure the recent loss of business.”

RideAustin is also feeling the impact of the return of Uber and Lyft, with the nonprofit announcing last week they had seen a 36 percent loss in rides.

Fare also said in an email, "We wish you all the best. Thank you for keeping it really weird too! We enjoyed the opportunity to serve and get to know so many of you, your business never went unappreciated. We will never forget you Austin!"
