Car crashes into West Austin condo

APD says alcohol and speed were factors in the Sunday night crash in which a man crashed his vehicle into a condo near Enfield and Lake Austin Boulevard.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of DWI after his car slammed into a condominium near Lake Austin late Sunday night.

The Austin Fire Department tells KVUE the male driver was going along Enfield and failed to make the turn at Scenic Drive/Lake Austin Boulevard, and AFD lists the crash at 3825 Lake Austin Boulevard. The vehicle also struck a parked car before going into the building. Austin-Travis County EMS said the crash happened around 11:05 p.m. Sunday and took the driver to the hospital. APD confirms speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

AFD posted on Twitter shortly after 8:30 a.m. video of the man's car being pulled from under the building.

There were concerns earlier Monday that part of the building could collapse if they removed the car before shoring up the building.

“We know that when we start towing cars we'll have the potential for another collapse. The living area of the building is intact and stable. It’s just this add on section that you see behind me that I’m concerned about,” said Palmer Buck with AFD.

No one was home at the time of the collapse and no other injuries were reported. The name of the driver has not been released as of 1 p.m. Monday.
