EMS: 1 dead, 1 injured in SE Austin shooting

AUSTIN - One man has died and a second critically injured after a shooting and crash in southeast Austin early Thursday morning, Austin-Travis County EMS said.

Austin police said the shooting happened in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 1881 Grove Boulevard, and EMS said they were called to the scene shortly before 4:40 a.m. Thursday. A man believed to be in his 20s died at the scene, and a second man believed to be in his 20s was taken to University Medical Center-Brackenridge with critical injuries. APD said Thursday afternoon that the second victim is still in critical condition.

APD said witnesses told them that they saw a black or blue sedan with heavy front end damage, but further description was not available as of 7 a.m. Thursday. Fairway Street was closed for around two hours while police investigated the shooting, but it has since reopened to traffic.

The names of the men shot have not been released, pending notification of their next of kin.

This shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Austin police.
