Police ID teen killed in southwest Austin crash

AUSTIN - Police have identified the man killed in a southwest Austin crash Saturday morning as Nicholas Joseph Young, 19.

APD said their preliminary investigation shows Young was traveling eastbound along the 4200 block of Southwest Parkway “at a high rate of speed” around 8 a.m. March 18. The address comes up as between the MoPac frontage road and Republic of Texas Boulevard.

Police said Young “failed to negotiate a right hand curve, drifted off the left side of the roadway, into the grass median and struck a tree.” He was taken to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

APD is still investigating the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call APD Vehicular Homicide Unit detectives at 512-974-8255. This is Austin’s 13th fatal crash of 2017.
