The doors of the Vehicle Assembly Building open Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, for the transfer of Space Shuttle Endeavour, on its mobile launcher platform, to Launch Pad 39A at the Kennedy Space Center, Fla. Endeavour is scheduled for a January 2000 mission launch. The launch of its sister ship Discovery on misssion STS-103 is targeted for Dec. 16 at 9:18 p.m. EST. The crew, comprising Commander Curtis Brown Jr., Pilot Scott J. Kelly, and Mission Specialists Steven L. Smith, C. Michael Foale (Ph.D.), John M.Grunsfeld (Ph.D.), Claude Nicollier of Switzerland, with the European Space Agency (ESA), and Jean-Fran ois Clervoy of France, also with ESA, will be servicing the Hubble Space Telescope, replacing gyros, insulation and equipment in up to three space walks.
