Air traffic controllers Tuesday were being trained at the Georgetown Municipal Airport.
Federal funding was made available last month, making it possible to hire air traffic controllers. For the next several days, those controllers will undergo orientation and training.
On the 15th, the airport officially becomes controlled air space. When that happens air traffic controller will be in the tower from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week.
The City of Georgetown built the tower with the help of state grant money in response to several near-misses and collisions that have taken place in the past 10 years.
