Everything you need to know on the day UMCB shuts down for good

AUSTIN - This weekend University Medical Center at Brackenridge will cease operations as staff and resources move to a more modern location across the street.

On Sunday, May 21, as Dell Seton Medical Center prepares to open for business, several roads will close off starting at 12 a.m.

Those closures are listed below:

  • Red River Street closes from Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. to the alley between HealthSouth and Brick Oven Restaurant.
  • 15th Street closes from IH-35 to Trinity Street.

Starting at 7 a.m., University Medical Center at Brackenridge officially closes and patients -- except for psychiatric patients -- will be required to visit Dell Seton instead. Seton health officials say the psychiatric department will be the only facility to remain open for the time being.

Patients for Dell Seton are asked to enter the parking garage at the corner of Red River Street and 15th Street. Officials say people can use the crosswalk from the parking garage to enter Dell Seton.

The emergency patient drop off is at the Emergency Department entrance on the southwest corner of the hospital building, 15th Street and Red River. Look for red “Emergency” signs.

On Monday, May 22, all roads will reopen for traffic.

Patients or people seeking medical help should call 512-324-7000 for assistance.
