AUSTIN -- The Type O blood supply is running thin at the Blood Center of Central Texas. Donations are needed.

The center says O negative blood is especially needed because it is the universal type and used in emergencies.

On Wednesday the center said its supply is "extremely critical."

Basic requirements for donating include: Being at least 17 years old, weighing at least 115 pounds for whole blood donation, bringing a photo ID and being in generally good health.

The process takes about 45 minutes to one hour.

Those wishing to donate their blood are encouraged to go to one of the following donor centers:

Austin Donor Center, 4300 N Lamar Blvd

Sunday: 10am – 3pm
Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 8am – 5pm
Tuesday, Thursday: 8am – 6 pm
Saturday: 8am – 3 pm

Round Rock Donor Center, 21323 N Mays, Suite 900 (at IH-35, exit 254)

Monday, Tuesday, Friday: 8am - 6 pm

Saturday: 8am – 3 pm

South Austin Donor Center, 9500 S IH-35, Bldg L, Suite 800

(Southpark Meadows: IH-35 South, Right on Slaughter Ln, left on Cullen, behind Wells Fargo)

Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 8am – 6 pm

Saturday: 8am – 3 pm
