Just when you've made the new years resolution to get to the gym and lose a few pounds, you may not want to.
A new study says being slightly overweight may actually help you live longer.
Researchers looked at data on nearly three million adults around the world. They compared their Body Mass Index, a measurement of weight in relation to height, and the risk of death.
"Of these 97 studies, 80 percent of them showed that there was lower mortality in overweight than normal weight people," Dr. Katherine M. Flegal with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.
The results only apply to people who are slightly overweight. Obese people have more than triple the risk of dying, according to the study.
The results were published in the latest issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.
