NORTH ANDOVER, Massachusetts -- A family is outraged over a letter sent home with their son from school. Its purpose was to inform the boy's parents that their son is "obese."
Cameron Watson is one of many children around Massachusetts to receive the letter. According to the state's Department of Health, Watson has a Body Mass Index which shows he is overweight or obese.
"I know I'm not obese so I don't really care about the letter. I just crumpled it up," Watson said.
Letters being sent to parents are supposed to be a helpful tool, but Watson's parents don't agree. They say the letters are hurtful.
Officials say every family has the option of not having their children screened for their BMI.
