BURNET, Texas -- A Burnet resident was bitten by a rabid skunk in their own home Thursday.
Burnet police were called to a home in the 800 block of Mildred Street in Northwest Burnet for a person who said they had been bitten by a skunk that had come into their house.
Burnet police took the skunk and sent it to be tested by the state, which confirmed the animal has rabies.
The person bitten by the skunk has started a series of shots for treatment.
Animal Control Officer Wilson wants citizens to be aware of this incident and the dangers of rabid animals. He recommends pet owners be sure their pets are properly vaccinated. He also urges residents not to leave any food on their porches or outside their home.
