Thousands turned out Sunday morning at the Domain in Northwest Austin to help raise money for a cure for breast cancer.

In the 2009 Race For The Cure, the colors pink and white symbolized hope, determination and strength, as the community came together to raise money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer, celebrate survivors and honor those who have lost their battle with the disease.

"Everybody is so wonderful, sweet, all the people that come out the money that's raised because the cure is gonna come from Texas, that's the bottom line," said Bonnie Towns, breast cancer survivor.

Many of those who've battle breast cancer and won are quick to give encouragement to those who might just be starting the battle against the disease.

"Breast cancer is not a death sentence any longer, it isn't," said Mary Kay Young, survivor.  "Like I said early detection is the way to go."

This year's event raised close to $2 million.

Organizers know, every penny means researchers are a step closer to ultimately finding a cure.
