HOUSTON (AP) -- A spokeswoman for Princess Cruises says more than 100 passengers and crew contracted a stomach virus on one of its ships.
Karen Candy tells the Houston Chronicle that 96 passengers and six crew members on the Crown Princess contracted a common form of gastrointestinal illness that involves upset stomachs, vomiting and diarrhea.
The illness struck during a 20-day Venetian cruise due to end Saturday at Galveston's port.
Candy says the cruise line suspects the virus, which is easily transmitted from person to person, was brought on board by embarking passengers.
She says the ship will undergo a comprehensive disinfection after it docks.
