WASHINGTON -- Labor union members, religious leaders and other activists protested in the nation's capital against what they call an abusive health insurance industry.

Organizers with Health Care for America Now say thousands came in from across the country for Tuesday's march. Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean addressed the crowd, calling on Congress to take a final vote on the proposed health care overhaul.

D.C. police escorted about 10 protesters away who wanted to go inside a hotel where America's Health Insurance Plans, an association of health insurance companies, is meeting.

Protesters say they are fed up with rising premiums, denials of care and claims, and insurance companies' efforts to thwart reform. They say they want to hold the industry accountable for its actions.
