A national health tour makes its stop in Austin. The AARP/Walgreens Wellness Tour bus arrived in Austin Friday morning. It’s part of a 3,000 community national mobile health screening campaign.
Inside the 40-foot bus, certified medical technicians are performing health screenings including total cholesterol levels, blood pressure, bone density, glucose levels, waist circumference and body mass index. Altogether, the six health screenings are worth more than $140, but for the people who visit the bus, the screenings are free.
The tour is intended to give provide adults, 18 years and older, a chance for early disease detection. There’s no appointment necessary to visit the bus. Doctors say patients will get their results instantly.
Anyone who gets screened will also get a free AARP membership for a year. For those who are under 50, they can pass on the free membership to an eligible adult.
