Austin doctor discusses new shingles treatment

Every year about one million people get shingles -- a painful condition caused by the chicken pox virus.

Often it strikes the elderly, and experts say it is the number one cause of pain-related suicides in the older population. 

Dr. Matt McCarty, a board certified anesthesiologist with Balcones Pain Consultants, spoke to KVUE about a new FDA-approved treatment for shingles pain that uses chili pepper compounds.
