Sheriff's deputies issue arrest warrant for man accused of dumping homes
10:21 PM CDT on Tuesday, August 19, 2008
Detectives with the Travis County Sheriff's Department have issued an arrest warrant for a house mover who they say duped people out of their money, abandoning their homes instead of delivering them as promised.
Paul Miller, 41, was charged in January with Organized Crime on the same accusations. On Monday, an arrest warrant was issued for illegal dumping over a house detectives say he abandoned in a vacant lot in Manor on U.S. 290 east.
"He told us so many times he was going to move it and he never showed up," said Ann Turnbow, a Webberville resident who called the Travis County Sheriff's Department after Miller failed to make good on his promises. "He kept saying, 'You know, I'm going to bring it out there Monday.'" It just went day-by-day and then it turned out to be week-by-week and then month-by-month and now it's been two-years."
The grandmother of three says she and Miller signed a contract in November of 2006 to have a 2,000 square-foot Victorian home moved from State Highway 130 and Parmer to the family's 37-acre estate in Webberville. The family gave Miller $27,000 to move the house. Miller delivered only a smaller half of the house in February of 2007.
Detectives with the sheriff's department says it isn't Miller's first time to take the money and run.
"Currently, there's a Williamson County warrant for the exact same thing in their county. He has three previous charges and convictions for the same offense of dumping houses," said Detective Sidney Parker with the Travis County Sheriff's Department.
Miller told KVUE in a phone conversation that he had intended to move the house on Tuesday, but didn't due to the weather.
Miller is facing up to two-years in jail for the illegal dumping charge.
