Formal complaint filed in APD officer abuse allegation case

AUSTIN -- A formal complaint has been filed against two Austin police officers in a New Year's Day arrest.

Cell phone video shot across the street from the convenience store on Lamar and 10th Street shows police taking down 34-year-old Antonio Buehler early New Year's morning.

He had stopped for gas and noticed police performing a DWI stop on a woman.

Buehler said it appeared the officers were being abusive by lifting her up by her arms that were handcuffed behind her.

When he and his friend attempted to take pictures, they were confronted by one of the officers, taken to the ground, and arrested for harassment of a public servant.

The two women originally involved in the DWIstop are facing misdemeanor charges.

Buehler faces felony charges and is accused of spitting on the arresting officer. He says that did not happen. He wants the charges dropped.

An investigation involving that arrest and allegations of abuse is now underway.
